Although it's a lower budget I'd have to say that this movie is creepier than the similarly themed DARKNESS FALLS. The story concerns a twelve-year-old boy (Jesse James) who is absolutely terrified of the dark. When his parents have to go out to a dinner party for the first time in months, they are reluctant to leave him with his sixteen-year-old brother, in case something might happen. Of course, there is a thunderstorm that night and the house loses electricity. This is when the shadows start to take shape and the darkness comes alive. The kid keeps on telling his brother that the dark is alive-and about midway through the movie he starts believing him. The older brother's girlfriend also shows up and experiences some of her fears. The monsters are creepy, sort of a cross between a zombie and Freddy Krueger. It's a movie definitely worth renting out.
