Timothy Hutton is a physics professor who finds a mysterious metal briefcase at his wife's grave. It contains a police file of his murder. But when he has the papers dated, they turn out to be 50 years old, which means they are from the future and that someone has sent this back in time to him so he can prevent his own death. Carrie Matchens (INVASION TV series) is his love interest, who may have something to do with his impending demise, and Randy Quaid is the police detective who eventually believes him.
