Soon after their father dies, four children and their mother go to live with their grandmother (Ellen Burstyn of EXORCIST, RESURRECTION), who they never knew existed. The mother (Heather Graham) explains that she and her mother weren't speaking for a long time and now everything is settled. It's not. Once they arrive at the rambling Foxworth mansion, the children are told to stay in one room, with the drapes closed. The mother tells them that they'll soon be rich, that she just has to woo her father into writing her back in the will. The grandmother, who brings them a basket of food once a day, is mean and warns the older brother and sister, Cathy (Kiernan Shipka of MAD MEN), not to have sinful thoughts about their bodies. Why? We learn that their father was actually their mother's uncle--and that was the reason they were ostracized. One day turns to months turns to years. The siblings also have full run of the huge attic, where they hang out most of the time. Of course, kept in isolation, Cathy and her brother develop sexual feelings for one another, making their grandmother's fear a reality. Things change when the youngest brother dies and they realize they're being poisoned...
This is a better version of the novel than the 1987 movie that starred Christy Swanson, Louise Fletcher and Victoria Tennant. I can see LIFETIME adapting the entire series as made-for-cable movies.
