Anthony Hopkins is a rich business guy who blatantly shoots his wife (Embeth Davitz of ARMY OF DARKNESS, FALLEN) in the head after he discovers she's having an affair. He cleans himself up, wipes off his fingerprints from the bullets and leaves the gun in plain sight. He even confesses to doing the crime to the arresting officer.
The prosecuting attorney (Ryan Gosling of STAY) assigned to the case has another high paying job lined up and takes this only because it seems so open and shut. But there's nothing other than circumstantial evidence that points to Hopkins doing it. In fact, the gun they found hasn't even been fired, so it's not the murder weapon. And the police cannot find that gun inside the house. Things also get complicated when Hopkins tells the judge and jury that the man who was having the affair with his wife is the arresting officer, who then attacks him on the floor of the courtroom.
It's extremely entertaining watching these two characters, the killer and the lawyer, trying to outsmart one another. And while the ending is not totally surprising it's a GOOD ending.
