This is an intriguing, unpredictable series co-produced by J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci. FBI agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) and her partner (who is also her love-interest) are pursuing a suspect through a self-storage facility when it blows up, nearly burning him to death. While that's serious enough, it has also exposed him to some weird substance that is slowly "melting" him. She does some research and the only person who may have a chance of figuring it out, as it's similar to some experiments he did years ago, is Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble), who has been in a mental institution for the past 17 years. The only way for her to get access to him is through is son, Peter (Joshua Jackson) the only person allowed to visit and she convinces him to helping her.
In the first several episodes, THE SAME OLD STORY, THE GHOST NETWORK, THE ARRIVAL, they deal with a serial killer who may be killing in order to stop his aging, a form of psychic communication and a weird burrowing contraption that seems to have a life of its own.
Although the two stars, Torv and Jackson, are very well matched and do have a chemistry on screen, the star of the show is John Noble as Walter Bishop. Sometimes he's like Doctor Frankenstein, not caring about anything except for his experiment, other times he's like a naive child. And many times he's outright crazy.
FRINGE follows the best traditions of the original KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER, X-FILES and MILLENNIUM.
