Judging by the preview and the artwork for this movie I thought it would be similar to last year's GHOST SHIP. Instead, it has much more in common with THE HIDDEN or THE THING. A group of environmental activists stow aboard an oil rig that is to be sunk. They search the structure and can't find any of the remaining workers, who are expected to be there. Not a trace of them. Then one of the group mysteriously dies, without a mark on him. They attribute it to a heart-attack-but it's something much more sinister. Things are soon discovered--ruinic symbols on a floor, a videotape of the crewmembers performing some ancient supernatural ritual. Soon we find out that an evil entity is body-hopping from one person to the next-and there are only a few survivors left. One of them is a wheel-bound man who used to work on the rig, who knows something critical that the others don't. Although there's not a lot of gore and it tends to be dialogue heavy at times, particularly with the 'video diary' segments, an effective sense of suspense is created and the atmosphere is suitably creepy.
