Based on the novel by horror author Brian Keene, this is about a group of boy friends in the 1980's and a monster that lives in their town. They have an underground fort--but there may be something else down there. The main character loses his grandfather, which leaves him to deal with his asshole father. But his friend's have it worse. One of their mother's sexually abuses her son and the other kid is regularly beaten by his father sporting black eyes and bloody lips.
The makeup of the monster sucks, everything is too brightly lit and it kept on making me think about STAND MY ME, a movie that's about a million times better.
Andrew van den Houten (OFFSPRING) is one of the producers--and this is probably the worst movie he's been involved with. Disappointing adaptation, all around.
