This newest Godzilla flick from Japan has our monster fighting a mechanical version of himself, which resembles the very first MechaGodzilla rather than the one he fought in the 90's.As with GODZILLA '84 and 2000, this one ignores all the previous movies and has it be a direct sequel to the original 1958 movie. Here, a new malevolent Godzilla appears and a weapon is built to keep it away from Japan. What they do is take the skeleton from the original Godzilla (which has been on the bottom of the ocean for the past 50 years) and build a cybernetic shell around it, so it's this sort of huge bio-mechanical weapon. But problems arise. When it has its first battle against the Big G and is to fire its 'ultimate' weapon upon him, it stops obeying commands and starts acting on its own. It seems that Godzilla's roaring triggered some cellular memory it had of being a Godzilla and this causes it to go on a rampage and start destroying buildings. As far as Godzilla movies go this was decent enough, but not as good as the prior three movies-GODZILLA 2000, GODZILLA vs. MEGAGUIRAS, GODZILLA: GMK. And once again they changed his appearance around some. He still has the same spikes as with GODZILLA 2000 but is much more green (Godzillas in all the 50's-90's movies were gray-black in color, NOT green) and unlike the GMK version, has large yellow and black eyes and his neck isn't so cobra-like.As for human characters, there's a scientist, a woman soldier who vows vengeance upon Godzilla for killing her brother, and a little girl (the scientist's daughter) who gives insight as to Godzilla's motivations. All in all a decent enough G-flick.
