Charles, a high school outcast obsessed with the roll-playing game MONSTERS & MAYHEM, switches back and forth from reality to fantasy as he tries to figure out what he wants in life. The movie starts with our protagonist getting dipped, headfirst, into a toilet, then moves on to him getting repeatedly rejected by the snotty girl he is romatically interested in. Although the story has been done before, most obviously the Tom Hanks movie MAZES AND MONSTERS, this low budget version features good photography, cool fantasy sequences where the 'heroes' fight raging pig-faced orcs and a great performance by newcomer David Gray, by far the best actor in the movie.
