This is a surprisingly well-done prequel series to Batman, which has Detective Jim Gordon and a young Bruce Wayne as the main characters. Of course, they meet when Bruce's parents are brutally killed--and they continue a relationship through the series. There's street urchin Selena Kyle, who says she saw who the murderer was--and there's a chemistry between her and young Bruce. Butler Alfred may be one of the most interesting characters--and you can see how he has a huge influence on the formation of the future Caped Crusader. We also see how the villains, in particular The Penguin, gets their beginnings. The most formidable bad-guy is Jada Pinkett Smith's Fish Mooney, who you both hate and root for, depending on her situation. There's a harrowing group of episodes in which she's kidnapped and held on an island where they use their prisoners for spare body parts. The first season ends with her seemingly dying over a cliff--but I suspect she'll return in a year or two under another guise (or different actress). Another surprising twist is Barbara Gordon. When we're first introduced to Jim he's living with his socialite girlfriend in her apartment--and then they break up, after which she goes off the deep end and becomes a villain. I guess he names his future daughter Barbara out of sentimental reasons...
I'm surprised at how much I enjoyed this prequel television series to BATMAN.
Highly recommended.
