A meteor crashes into the ocean off an Irish island. A nearby fishing boat goes over to investigate and the crew is attacked and presumably eaten by someTHING with tentacles. The main characters are two local cops, drunk Garda Ciaran O'Shea (Richard Coyle) and newly arrived Garda Lisa Nolan (Ruth Bradley of PRIMEVAL). They develop more than a professional interest in each other as events--and deaths--escalate. These aliens, which look like something dreamed up by H.P. Lovecraft, feed on blood and water--but don't like alcohol, which means they are unlikely to attack you if you're drunk. And since this is Ireland, it does not take much convincing by Ciaran and Lisa to get every local to drink. Grabbers is a fun, goofy monster movie, hearkening back to early 80's movies like Gremlins and Critters, with a dose of Tremors thrown in. Highly recommended--one of the best monster movies I've seen in a long while.
