Brad Dourif and James Earl Jones star in this horror anthology which takes place in the Old West. Dourif is a city guy travelling across country on horseback to reunite with his wife. One night, after he sets up camp, he's joined by a man named Morrison (Jones), who is sort of this desert 'mountain man' type. The guy's size and mannerisms are somewhat threatening and he immediately puts Dourif ill at ease. Things calm down, however, and the campfire evening starts with Morrison telling a story about an old guy who crosses a forbidden Indian burial ground-and pays the consequences. Then he tells the story of a young man (Marc McClure, 'Jimmy Olsen' in the Christopher Reeve Superman movies) who befriends a pregnant woman who is travelling alone. How he meets his fate by her is extremely unsettling-and perhaps one of the weirdest deaths/scenes I've ever seen in a movie. This movie is renting just to see this short story. The last story is told by Dourif, about a family from the post Civil War South who want to make a new go of it out West, yet the father (William Atherton) slips back into his old ways, namely killing African Americans. It is a subtle but creepy story. If you're a fan of horror anthologies GRIM PRAIRIE TALES is a must see.
