A scientist, in 1989, believes he can expedite humanity's evolution by creating a parasite that increases strength and stamina in the host. However, it goes awry and turns the test subjects into wild, zombie-like creatures that want to kill. Jamie Akerman is a young woman who returns to the island twenty-years later, for her inheritance. Her mother, who was killed during the outbreak, was one of the scientists who created the parasites. She's accompanied by a group of friends, who, you guessed it, are simply in line to be the next victims.
The first half of this movie starts off strong--and had me hooked from the titles sequence. However, characters start saying and doing stupid things--and the impressive CGI worm effects are undone when they use real worms (earthworms--which do not look like the parasites whatsoever ) for some of the shots, like when someone vomits. Overall, this horror movie just didn't grow on me.
