This is my least favorite Lewis film, although it's still pretty damn good. If you take a crazy old woman and her simple minded son and let them run a wig shop where they scalp young women to make the products, you get this classic. Gruesome doesn't have enough gore for my Lewis fetish. It has a few scalpings and hairpin in the eye scene but not too much else worth watching, gore wise anyway. The best part of this, believe it or not, is the performances of the old lady and her demented son. They make it all happen here and kept me interested. It is a treat to listen to this dialog. The quirky music sets a cool tone and the opening scene of the two wigs talking is a riot. You might lose your hair if you miss seeing this one.
