Jerry O'Sullivan's feature debut, sort of a cross between THE EVIL DEAD and THE DARK NIGHT OF THE SCARECROW, is about a hunter who accidently shoots someone and hides the body....and a year later the scarecrow, possessed by the man's spirit, comes back for revenge. The movie is very well shot, with most of the story happening at night, but after a while the 'artsy' shots seems as if they were used as padding to make the movie time longer. It probably would have worked better as a forty-five minutes short. Sasha Graham (ADDICTED TO MURDER) has a quick cameo as an officer. Jeff Forsyth (director of CHILDREN OF THE SKY) gives an excellent performance as the lead character, DAN, particularly when compared against some of the other actors. I'd like to see him more in front of the camera. Overall, GUTPILE is a decent, if familiar, horror film.
