An inspector investigates a series of serial killer murders in which the men's hearts are cut out from their bodies. He comes across an author who is writing about exactly the same type of murders-and he becomes suspicious of her. She explains to him that she's based her story on a real life Carpathian Countess-- and that as part of her research found out the last living relative of the woman. The Inspector meets her-and she turns out to be an older woman, definitely not the killer. But it is indeed the author who is responsible. In order to research her work she takes on the personality of her subjects. GUARDIAN OF THE ABYSS is about an antiques dealer who buys a strange mirror that's able to bring forth a demon. But there's a cult after it, a cult who wants to summon this creature to this world. This really reminded me of the Hammer Dracula movies, particularly the later ones.
