John Harrington is a thirty-year-old fashion designer who specializes in bridal gowns. He is also quite insane, as revealed from the opening sequence and voice-over explaining his insane delusions and paranoia. He has a need to kill young women before they are married-and most of these are models he has employed for his company. His wife, Mildred, is unaware of the murders. She hates him because he turned out to be impotent on their wedding night and, out of spite, refuses to grant him the divorce he desires.A police detective is on the case-and has an eye on him-but there's not enough evidence to bring him in for the murders. Each murder he commits, though, brings him closer and closer to a memory he is repressing, a memory that has to do with the death of his mother. He kills a few more women and even his wife, who comes back to haunt him, more vicious than ever. It's not all that surprising when we find out he had committed matricide-and was basically re-enacting this murder over and over again in his adult life.Directed by Mario Bava.
