Frank Taylor (Matthew Fox) has a near-death experience after killing an evil child kidnapper and afterwards receives communications from the dead. They haunt him, primarily to get him to help solve their murders. There are some recurring ghosts and an interesting episode in which he's possessed by the spirit of a slain cop.
What I had a hard time swallowing is that he's still friends with his ex-wife, who is a lawyer, and she helps him on some of his cases. Why didn't the writers just keep them married, as there's little conflict here and it doesn't serve any real purpose.
The best episode is the last one, LAST CALL, in which a woman is haunting the bar beneath his apartment/office and it's up to him to solve her murder. It's a lot like a good episode of GHOST WHISPERER and it works well.
If this was made a few years later, with MEDIUM and GHOST WHISPERER, it might have taken off. As they say, timing is everything.
