A young, somewhat haggard looking woman is obsessed with obtaining a secret magical book. This book, when put together with a companion text, can bring the dead back to life. When she does find a dealer who has it she ends up shooting him instead of paying for it. Her boyfriend (Jeff Dylan Graham) is horrified by what she did but she convinces him that she can undo his death by doing the spell from the book. Well, it doesn't work exactly how she expects it to. Her boyfriend chops up the dealers body in order to dispose of it, but not before his hand crawls away. There are some truly creepy scenes with this severed hand wandering around the house. Then, the woman's dead father, who was a witch, returns from the dead. Man, this is one messed up looking zombie-I think it's even better than the poster zombie for DAWN OF THE DEAD. There's this one scene, when he's stalking someone, and all these maggots are dropping from his body to the floor. Aggghh. What I liked best about this movie is that it's low key, the filmmakers didn't choose to go the exploitive route. I hadn't seen Jeff Dylan Graham in anything recently but HELLBOUND shows he's steadily growing as an actor-a very good performance there.Directed by Steve Sessions (CREMAINS) and released through Brain Damage Films at www.braindamagefilms.com.
