I didn't find the second season of this UK show nearly as enjoyable as the first season, though it does do some interesting thing with the recurring characters.
In the first season the main character, Cassie, died shortly after giving birth to a demon/human hybrid named Malachi. In the second season Ella Dee, a 500 year old witch whose job is it is to prevent such a birth, is now the primary character.
Thelma Bates (Jemima Rooper) returns as the lesbian ghost. The season begins with Ella committed to an insane asylum because she's being drugged with St. John's Wort, which is draining her powers and killing her. The new headmaster of the school, a priest (who is also a demon) wants to keep Ella there. So it's up to Thelma and Emma's new boyfriend, Leon Taylor, to get her out of the loony bin and restore her power. In the first season Leon seemed to be more of a villain towards Cassie but his relationship with Ella has changed him for the better.
The demon/headmaster is having an affair with a student, Roxanne, which causes a scandal when their sexual antics are caught on tape. Roxanne retreats from becoming the center of attention and by the end of the season becomes one of the more "pure" characters.
In the meantime the baby Malachi has grown into a teenager within six-month's time and enrolls as a new student. He and Ella are attracted to one another yet they're supposed to kill each other. Malachi menages to get the ghost Thelma to do some of his bidding and quickly contaminates the student body by transforming them into incubi and succubi, which increases his power. After all, he's the one who will begin the Apocalypse.
The last episode tries to bring some closure to the story line but it feels too rushed and unsatisfying.
