Page Fletcher is 'The Hitchhiker,' walking a lonely road where darkness is always by his side and terror lurks around every turn. Pick him up if you dare. He will guide you to your destination, where the good are spared and the wicked are damned. Never got into this show when it was on HBO back in the 80's, but recently got my hands on a DVD that contained some of the episodes, so I thought I would give it a chance. Maybe I am spoiled by all of the new big-budget stuff HBO does, like The Sopranos, Carnivale, etc... because I was not very impressed with the low-budget production on The Hitchhiker. Or maybe I am spoiled by the quality of past shows they did like Tales From The Crypt which caused me to watch The Hitchhiker with expectations of more. At any rate... the show was not horrible by any means; it just does not match up to some of the great shows I mentioned above. Everything was very 80's, as you can imagine... and the storylines were dead on 80's material. The 80's as a decade pretty much sucked, but there were some interesting things happening in the world that made their way into this show. The Hitchhiker had its moments of interest however. Each episode contained a modicum of irony and a morale story to go along with it. The show was not too bad to watch, but don't expect too much. If you can get your hands on the DVD of the episodes to rent... then do so... as it will provide some entertainment on those rainy nights.
