A woman and her baby, driving in a car to meet up with her husband, Gannon (Costas Mandylor of SAW) are killed--and eaten--by what appears to be a pack of hyenas that are let out of a car. The husband is notified by the local police and he's distraught. Soon after, he's visited by a big African-American guy named Briggs who claims to know who is responsible for his wife's murder. He tells Gannon about the shape-shifters, which he terms "Crypto-humans", and how they came over with the slave trade. Gannon doesn't believe him so he kidnaps him at gunpoint and shows him the truth. Gannon is convinced. From that point on he becomes Brigg's monster-slaying partner. Now, the Alpha of the pack is dying and the hyenas are determined to kill the hunters. There's a dumb subplot about two rival gangs--one Hispanic, one Redneck, lots of infighting with the hyena pack, horrible writing/acting and some very unattractive women. A portion of the special effects are interesting but the big confrontation between the two CGI hyenas at the end is too goofy and cartoony. This monster hunting scenario is far better done with the television series SUPERNATURAL, so stick with that for your creature fix.
