This science-fiction/action movie begins in the jungles of Mexico, with a boy being killed by a dinosaur-like alien monster. As soon as this happens, it affects another teenager, John Smith, thousands of miles away, in California. He gets a burning circular scar on his leg--and he knows another one of his kind has been killed. We learn that he and his "father", Henri (Timothy Olyphant of HITMAN, A PERFECT GETAWAY) are refugees from a defeated alien planet and that there are alien hitmen, the Mogadorians, after them. They look like humans except for gills on their faces and piranha-like teeth. So they move to the middle of nowhere and try to start over. Soon, John adopts a dog that wanders onto the property, though this turns out to be something far more than a regular canine. John also wants to be a "normal kid", so he goes to school. There, he meets Sarah Hart (Dianna Agron of GLEE--yes, she can act), who becomes the love interest. There's also a nerd he sticks up for, who ends up helping him. He also begins to get glowing-light powers. Eventually they are joined by Number Six (Teresa Palmer of THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE), who has an entirely different ability than he has--she can teleport.
The story is almost the same as that of the television series ROSWELL, the animated movie INVASION AMERICA and even the 80's show THE POWERS OF MATTHEW STARR, so it's predictable. I thought this movie was going to be NUMBER TWO, yet I was entertained.
