For every thirty giant monster/creature movies made for the Syfy Channel there's one good one. And this time around this is it, ICE ROAD TERROR.
Two ice-road truckers, Jack and Neal, are paid triple time to make a delivery of explosives to a rural mine site. Accompanying them is environmentalist Rachel (Brea Grant of HEROES), who ends up becoming the love interest for one of the guys. Once they get there they find that nearly everyone is slaughtered. A giant, lizard/eel creature has awakened from the ice and gone on a rampage, causing bloody, gorey destruction. It's a creature out of Inuit legend. Unfortunately, it looks like a cartoon iguana with too many teeth. They manage to escape but it follows them by swimming underneath the ice, so for the second half of the movie they have to try to survive, until they make their final stand at an isolated cabin.
What sets ICE ROAD TERROR apart from the rest of the generic monster movies is that it's fun. I liked the characters, I liked the story and it has a vicious, uncompromising monster. Recommended.
