Rolfe Kanefsky has never disappointed as a director, from his THERE'S NOTHING OUT THERE to last year's THE HAZING. The movie begins with a wallflower named Jackie Hyde, who inherits a mansion from her mysterious grandfather. It seems that he was not only a famous magician, but was continuing the work began by his grandfather. By accident, she ingests one of the vials of formula and physically transforms into another woman. Yet this formula is not as simple as the original. Serum #55 allows the person to assume any human shape, whether it be the neighbor next door or a model from a fashion magazine. Jackie quickly gets addicted to this newfound power-and deaths soon follow. This movie has some firsts in special effects I've never seen before, such as a guy's eye being poked out by a nipple and a lap dancer sucked dry through a private orifice. Unbelievable, sure, but done in such a way as to not detract from the well-written story. Most of all, I liked the twist on the old Jeckyll & Hyde scenario and that this particular formula does unexpected things. JACQUELINE HYDE is a fine sequel to the Robert Louis Stevenson novel.
