Not as much fun as the Ray Harryhausen version from the 60's, this is nevertheless an interesting take on the Greek myth. Jason learns that he's really the son of a King-and in order to reclaim his rightful place, and also save the life of his Queen mother, he must obtain the Golden Fleece for his evil Uncle (Dennis Hopper). The Uncle is the one who had slain his father and married his mother.Jason picks a rag-tag crew to sail about the Argos-and encounter some nasty looking Harpies, the God Posiedon and a dragon that guards the fleece. There's also this mechanical, fire-breathing bull he has to tame and plant a field of dragon's teeth, which turn into these strange, sword bearing roots that attack him.It seemed like the producers went out of the way to repeat any of the characters from the first movie, like the giant Talos, The Hydra or the fighting skeletons. The best thing about this is casting Brian Thompson (MORTAL KOMBAT 2, WEREWOLF) as a bearded Hercules, who agrees to be one of the Argonauts. He is a WAY better Herc than Kevin Sorbo ever was-and much much closer in demeanor to the one in the myths. Jolene Blaylock (The Vulcan on ENTERPRISE) portrays Media, Jason's love interest.
