Three popular high school girls kidnap their peer on her birthday. They gag her with a giant jawbreaker and throw her in the trunk of a car. But when they get to their destination and check up on her the jawbreaker had lodged in her throat and killed her. The leader, Courtney (Rose McGowan), tells the other two that they have to act as if nothing has happened at school. Afterwards they take her body back to her house (her parents are out of town) and make it look as if she was raped and killed. At the same time a nerdy girl, Fern Mayo (Judy Greer), shows up and overhears them talking about the murder. So what does the leader decide to do? She tells Fern that if she remains quiet about the whole thing and doesn't tattletale she can become popular, like them. She accepts the offer and joins the group under a new identity--"Violet". One of the original three girls, Julie (Rebecca Gayheart) the only one upset about the death, backs out of the group and sort of changes places with Fern. Investigating the suspicious murder is Detective Vera Cruz (Pam Grier). In the end the bad girl gets her comeuppance.
The movie begins with a strong first half hour, then degenerates into another teen movie. You can see that the script tries to be along the lines of HEATHERS, only the reminders of this better movie makes this one seem worse than what it is.
