Newest version of the Robert Louis Stevenson story, released on DVD this month from LionsGate, takes place in the present-day among a group of medical students. One of them (Bryan Fisher) has a theory that he can radically change a person's personality with a new drug he created from Ecstacy-and he tests it on himself. To no surprise, he quickly transforms from a Clark-Kentish guy into a sociopathic, sex-hungry killer. His biggest conflict is that he loves his friend Mary (Bree Turner) and does not want to kill her, though the urge is there. This is one of those movies in which Jeckyll doesn't physically transform into another being, yet it works with Fisher's performance.
Although this film version doesn't offer anything new it is presented with high production values and good acting.
