This is, down and out, the best film adaptation of the Jules Verne novel. Sir Oliver Lindenbrook (James Mason of Salem's Lot) is an Edinburgh professor, who, along with an assortment of colleagues, follow an old explorer's trail down an Icelandic volcano, down to the center of the earth. They are followed by Count Saknussem, who is the descendent of Arnie Saknussem, the man who originally made the journey. They come across some beautiful sites, such as caverns of giant crystals, and eventually make their way to the center where there's remains of the ancient city of Atlantis. However, there are also some dangers, such as the dinosaurs. They end up being shot out of a volcano to the surface, to recount their story. Highly recommended.
