If I were to compare this computer-animated movie to another, it would be FINAL FANTASY: THE SPIRITS WITHIN. Kaina (voice of Kirsten Dunst) is a young girl who, with the rest of her people, live in what appears to be a gigantic tree. It's on one of her excursions that we see it is actually suspended in orbit about a planet. Six hundred years ago aliens had crashed their ship-and this 'tree' has grown around a section of the craft. An ancient one of these aliens still survives and is assisted by prosthetic assisted worms, whose intelligence has been increased. His desire is to preserve what is basically a computer stored information bank about his people. But there are forces that want to stop him, creatures that take their form from the 'sap' of the tree. The characters are well-established and the story complex, definitely intended for an older audience. There are also plenty of strange monsters, one of them being these giant flying sharks that prey on the humans. A visually entertaining, unpredictable movie.
