This Italian JAWS rip-off is entertaining, mostly because of the low-budget and the giant rubber crocodile. A group of ecologists are in a tiny boat exploring the swamps of some unnamed island, trying to prove that the water is being polluted by people. What they discover is that someone is dumping radioactive waste in the muck. They confront the local law (Van Johnson) but he's in cahoots with the dumping guys, so he won't help them. A few villagers are killed by the giant croc and a hunter is brought in to kill it. The ecologists are opposed to this, saying that it's "one of a kind". Their attitude changes quickly when they are hunted by the creature.
Sometimes the crocodile effects are good, sometimes it looks very fake, but I'd take this anytime over the cheap computer CGI in such movies as LAKE PLACID 2.
The movie ends on a shot of a giant crocodile egg hatching---and guess what, there's a KILLER CROCODILE 2.
