A young man named Elvis leaves from his three years in the Navy to find his biogical father, who turns out to be a preacher (William Hurt looking very much the redneck) in a small town. After he follows him back to his house from church one Sunday he tells him who he is. Of course, Hurt doesn't want to deal with this unexpected news and promptly tells him he now has a family and doesn't need another son.
Elvis, however, doesn't give up quite so easily. He befriends Hurt's daughter (his half-sister) and has a secret relationship, which culminates in her pregnancy (she doesn't know he's her half-brother). He also kills the girl's brother, who caught him entering the house one night. Then, he moves into their house, effectively taking the place of the slain brother.
As the movie progresses, it becomes more horrific, and what you at first think is a Lifetime-type drama veers into David Lynch and serial killer territory. THE KING is one of the more disturbing "real-life" horror movies I've seen in 2006.
