An humanoid alien, which has sort of a zombie face, is being pursued across the desert by two-lizard-like aliens. He goes to shoot at them with his laser
weapon but they disintegrate him. But before they can recover the weapon and the necklace that controls it, they take off.
Then, we’re introduced to teenager Billy (Kim Milford), who is very frustrated. His slutty mother is taking off on vacation with another new boyfriend and
he’s having trouble with the other teens. So when he accidently finds the alien weapon in the desert he’s ecstatic he can blow shit up. It starts to
transform him when he uses it--with strange eyes, paler complexion and sharper teeth. He’s becoming the creature we saw in the opening scene. Meanwhile, the
lizard aliens are sent back to Earth by their commander, because they have to stop him using the weapon. Everything culminates with Billy going crazy and
blowing up most of the town (the Universal lot?) before the aliens show up and kill him.
I hadn’t seen this movie since it first came out and, while it’s a bit simplistic, it does hold up over time. And I love the Dave Allen stop-motion-animation
