Andie McDowell (GREYSTOKE) portrays a woman who is haunted by the ghost of her abusive, alcoholic husband (Tim Roth). When she starts to see him this worries her, as she thinks that he's out to get her. In flashbacks we see how he terrified her, but are also shown some of the good, normal times they had together. It seems that her troubles increase when she rents out the cottage behind her house to a single man, a man who is clearly interested in her. Is her husband trying to prevent her from being happy? Does he want her dead? And why does he keep on sending her a message that she doesn't understand.
Andie McDowell, who isn't one of the best actresses in the world, gives one of the better performances of her career and Margot Kidder is entertaining as the crazy co-worker who encourages her to believe in spirits.
THE LAST SIGN is a good, solid ghost story with an unexpected ending.
