Lukas Haas (WITNESS) portrays George Orr, who believes that his dreams change the reality he lives in. He takes drugs to prevent himself from falling asleep but the authorities catch him with the unauthorized medication and tell him to see a therapist to talk about his problems. He tells the psychiatrist (James Caan) about his unique reality changing predicament and, of course, the guy thinks he's nuts. That is, until he sees pictures of Orr's brainwaves. From then on he gives Orr post-hypnotic suggestions of what to change in the world...from overpopulation to making himself a world-renowned celebrity. Orr realizes what the doctor is doing and doesn't like it one bit. There's also a woman (Lisa Bonet) that keeps on crossing his life and he feels that she was once his girlfriend or wife in another reality. He tries to recapture her feelings while also trying to stop the doctor from changing the world too much. In the end he ends up not only erasing his own memories but those of the doctor as well, so that he's back at the beginning. This production is much lighter in tone and has a much larger budget than the 1970's original interpretation of the Ursula K. Leguin novel. Some of it's better, some of it's worse-the best bet is to watch them both.
