This is an intriguing mini-series from the Sci-Fi Channel, sort of like an extended TWILIGHT ZONE episode (from the original 60's series). The premise if that there are a hundred objects from a 1961 motel room that have incredible abilities and there are people out there who will do anything to get them. A key comes to Detective Joe Miller (Peter Krause of SIX FEET UNDER) during one of his investigations, a key which can unlock any door. If you go through one door and picture what your destination will be, you will end up there. It leads to that motel room, which is in a sort of limbo. When his daughter disappears in the room he's frantic to get her back and the only way seems to find a "prime" object, which has the power to do so. At first he's led to believe this is a clock but it may actually be a person, a person who was in the room when that strange event empowered all of the objects.
This is a cool idea that's well suited for a mini-series, as it's not long enough for it to get boring. Kevin Pollack gives a great performance as the movie's bad guy and he'll go to any lengths to bring his son back to life. In one scene he actually cuts out his own eye. Eeek.
The romance/love interest angle of the detective and a woman who is after the objects (Julianna Marguiles of GHOST SHIP) seems forced and in the series simply to have a love story angle. There's not a strong chemistry between the two actors.
Otherwise, this is an intriguing sci-fi series worth checking out.
