Harvey Keitel portrays a New York City musician who gets shot in the chest with playing a gig. After recovering in the hospital he doesn't quite know what to do with his life since he can't play his instrument with just one lung. Then, one night, he comes across a dead body in the street-and takes the bag the man was carrying. It contains this strange stone, which glows and hovers in the dark. Also in the bag a phone # written on a piece of paper, the phone # which belongs to a young woman who he's never met (Mira Sorvino). He thinks she is involved with the man's death somehow-and even goes so far as to show her the power of the stone. What it then does is make these two strangers fall head-over-heels in love. Now, Keitel thinks his purpose in life is to be with her. She gets a lead acting job in a movie shot overseas-and he's supposed to meet her. Only he gets kidnapped by these suspicious characters who want to know where the stone is. He tells them he has no idea what they're talking about. In truth, he gave it to his girlfriend to take it with her overseas. Then, bad things start to happen...This is a strange, affective movie, like a subtler version of JACOB'S LADDER.
