John Luther (Idris Elba) is a UK detective with some major anger issues. When he gets upset he has tantrums and bashes inanimate objects. Much of this revolves around his wife, Zoe, and the reason he's separated from her. When we first see him, he pursues a criminal into an old building--and lets the guy fall a few storeys. He's suspended for seven months. When he returns he has a new partner, Justin Ripley. The first case they investigate is a home invasion in which the husband and wife are found murdered. Their daughter, Alice, had found the bodies. It's eventually revealed that Alice had killed her parents and that she's a complete sociopath. And she's taken a liking to Luther, believing them kindred spirits. In other episodes, there's a sniper killing people, a serial-killer taxi driver and a group of kidnappers after some diamonds. The worst turn of events is when Luther's wife is killed--and he's framed for the murder. So he has to flee and prove his innocence. And crazy Alice may be able to help him.
What a great series, which is along the lines of WIRE IN THE BLOOD.
