This short film (15 minutes) by Eric Shapiro, who previously directed the feature RULE OF THREE, is an adaptation of the Jack Ketchum short story. Howard is a middle-aged man who prefers to do things the old fashioned way, like buying dvds in the mail rather than over the internet. In part, this is because he probably doesn't want his fetish to be traced to him--and this particular fetish looks to be S & M/Snuff Films. One day, after he receives a new video in the mail, he notices that the woman being abused looks familiar, which gets him thinking about a woman he dated some years before. Through a flashback we see that that relationship did not end well for her. But he liked her, so he tries to track her down but she seems to have disappeared. That is, until he sees her on the street--and that leads to an unexpected surprise for him.
The length is definitely long enough for this adaptation, as it's very straight-forward. The ways it it edited is disturbing, which succeeds in lending an unease to the story, sort of like a mini-HOSTEL tale.
