The first movie adaptation of Thomas Harris' RED DRAGON book. The Tooth Fairy serial killer is wiping out families. Retired FBI profiler Will Graham is lured back into law enforcement to help. (He retired after nearly being killed when he captured 'Hannibal The Cannibal' Lecter years ago.)Graham ends up meeting with Lecter to get insight into the case and to get his 'hunting instincts' back. You see, to catch these killers, Graham has to 'become' the killers and get inside their minds. This process nearly destroys his sanity and his family life...As Graham gets deeper into the case, he is double crossed by Lecter and a sleazy news reporter. He gets closer and closer to the killer as time runs out...will he stop the madman from killing again?Super-slick and super entertaining movie here. Some people claim the music and 'style' of the movie are dated, but I find it quite excellent to this day. Mann directs the movie with stylized flair, and William Peterson as Agent Graham delivers an intensity not seen in many characters. You believe he is indeed this battle-scarred FBI agent and he makes the movie. Peterson is worlds above Ed Norton in the newer RED DRAGON adaptation. Also, the Tooth Fairy killer is much scarier in this version. Brian Cox is a credible Hannibal in this edition (though admittedly, no Anthony Hopkins).Give this movie a shot. You won't be sorry. It's got a dark, sinister tone and the police procedural sequences are a pleasure to watch. Stylized and hip, this movie is still every bit as good now as it was almost two decades ago...
