Masters of Horror: John Landis & Lucky McKee. Although I've heard a lot of raving about this series-and have seen four previous episodes-it's still rather under-whelming. The first story, DEER WOMAN, directed by John Landis, concerns a depressed detective (Brian Benben) who is investigating a string of very weird and violent murders. From how the bodies are found it looks as if they were trampled to death by hooves. It turns out that it's because of the Deer Woman, who is human from the waist up but has these deer legs. She seduces men and then kills them. The episode comes off like an okay episode of the original NIGHT STALKER series. The funniest thing in it is an offhand reference to events in AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON.
The second story, SICK GIRL, directed by Lucky McKee (MAY), is about a lesbian entomologist (Angela Bettis of MAY, TOOLBOX MURDERS) who is sent a strange insect in the mail. This creature infects her new girlfriend, Misty (Misty Mundae of E.I. Cinema fame!), and people start to die. The special effects are good and the story quirky enough, but it seemed about twenty-minutes too long.
