With expectations so high for the second MATRIX movie there's bound to be some disappointment, not because the movie is inferior but because the first was so unique. So what the Wachowsky brothers did with RELOADED was to make a completely different movie, in both tone and style. And it's even more thematically complicated than the first was. We're introduced to the humans' underground city of Zion, where quarter of a million people live within this massive cavern, Neo and Trinity are together and Morpheus still leads them. They've uncovered that the machines are drilling down to them and that their last stand is nearing. There are some surprising revelations concerning Neo and the Oracle-and we're even introduced to the creator of the Matrix. As far as action sequences there are some here that surpass any in the first movie, particularly this fifteen-minute car chase that is mind boggling. And the scene where Neo fights a hundred copies of 'Mr Smith' is nearly as impressive. Don't be expecting a repeat of the first movie-this is something entirely new, taking characters and situations in different, unexpected directions. Doing exactly what a sequel should.
