Daniel's (Patrick Flannery) life's work is to uncover a hidden treasure in Mongolia. He's constantly in trouble with the local thugs, though there's a good law-enforcer that's on his side. Because of his friendship, he's coerced into taking two doctors to a small village ravaged by a mysterious plague. One of them is a potential love interest, Alicia (Victoria Pratt from MUTANT X). The locals insist it has something to do with the "death worms". These worms are actually real, and huge. A shale/oil mining operation has awoken these prehistoric monstrosities from their age-old slumber and now they are eating everyone up. They resemble a cross between the monsters in TREMORS and the slugs that lived in the ravine in Peter Jackson's KING KONG.
This monster-of-the-week flick is entertaining and relentless. It's also much better than expected, considering the title.
