Can't say I found "Mother's Day" to be as outstanding as a lot of people, but I can't say it isn't worth a look. One of the earlier Troma Productions and actually directed by Lloyd Kaufman's brother - this movie has a little going for it, especially around the first half.
A trio of city gals head out on a camping trip to reminisce of their fond college days when they are bum-rushed by a pair of slobbering redneck retard brother's who drag them back to their isolated shack where "mamma" forces them to act out a bizzare skit with one of the captives before beating and presumably raping her. The other girls are bound in the upstairs weight room where they perilously attempt to escape...
While the aggressor's were amusingly over-the-top and wacky, the whole "gag" seems to get a little over-done and in the way around the third act, kind of detracting from the possible intensity of the climax. Also, the pacing wasn't quite right and just sort of took me out of the story around the end. Disappointing too, because I thought "Mother's Day" had a pretty cool concept going - what with the opening scene with the brutalization of two annoying hippies and the pointless cruelty inflicted on the captured campers. At times, "Mother's Day" had enough zaniness and psycho-redneck essentials to keep it watchable, but the last twenty minutes or so were pretty weak...
