This movie focuses on a group of tenants in an apartment building in New York City who just got an eviction notice as their building just got purchased by a company who is going to increase the rent to something none of them can afford. The good news is that they soon don't have to worry about this as a plague breaks out in the city. This is mostly conveyed through news casts and radio, in which we hear that rats are attacking people everywhere. Once they are bitten they start transforming into these vicious rat-like creatures and attack humans.
Clutch (Nick Damici) is one of the main characters and this particular day he's waiting for the return of his daughter, Casey (Kim Blair), who is returning from Iraq. She was injured and has this big scar on the side of her face. The movie goes back and forth between the tentants in the building on Mulberry Street to her trying to make her way through this dangerous, mutant infested city.
There are cameos by Debbie Rochon as a news anchor and Larry Fessenden as a New Yorker trying to flee the infestation.
The effects are simple and effective, with people in various stages of were-rat transformation. MULBERRY STREET can be classified as both a werewolf and a zombie movie and it's a good monster flick. Check it out.
Directed by Jim Mickle.
This is one of the eight films in the 2007 AFTER DARK FILM FEST from Lion's Gate.
