Captain Cyrus Harding (Lochlyn Munro), a former slave and a few others escape in a hot air balloon during the Civil War and find themselves high over the ocean. There are some weird lights in the clouds and they are sucked into a "hole". They awaken to find themselves on a strange island. Soon after a few more people show up--a small plane from 2012, carrying Julia Fogg (Gina Holden of FLASH GORDON tv series) and her sister Abby crashes. Harding rescues them when they are attacked by these human-shaped creatures. Eventually they come to a Plantation-like house in the middle of the forest, which turns out to be the abode of Captain Nemo. In a flashback scene we see how Nemo's experiments with nuclear power created this weird place--which is The Bermuda Triangle. Mark Shepphard (SUPERNATURAL, THE BIONIC WOMAN porrays the young Captain Nemo). The Nautilus is actually buried beneath this house.
All in all this is an interesting movie adaptation of the Jules Verne novel, combining the classic tale with the mythos of the Bermuda Triangle. My only gripe is that the only giant animal they encounter is a little-utilized Octopus. The movie has an open end, presumably for an unnecessary sequel (or series, anyone?).
