This Italian exploitation movie begins with a shot of a city and bombs exploding behind it. Then, as the intro credits begin this picture changes to gradually show a fog enshrouded, presumably radioactive city. Then we go to the year 2019 and see a bunch of skeletons in the dirt. They are wearing futuristic looking gear. A group of people living in vans and buses are attacked by guys riding motorcycles and dune buggies. These are the Templars, who want to destroy mankind. The leader of this raiding party is a crazy-eyed giggling psychopath with a purple faux-hawk. They kill the people in vicious ways--some are blown up, set on fire. One fleeing guy is even beheaded by this spinning rotor that comes out of the vehicle chasing him. All these thugs wear white outfits. How they keep them sparkling white remains the biggest mystery of this movie.
The hero of the film, who has the Mad Max part, is a guy named Scorpion. He looks more like Eric Bogosian than he does Mel Gibson. He is friends with this genius kid who makes weapons and keeps his car running. Scorpion rescues a woman from being captured by the Templars and ends up sleeping with her. She doesn't talk much. The next day he's attacked by the same guys at what looks like an abandoned cement factory. As they are about to slice him up with that rotor Fred Williamson shows up. He's dressed up like the Punisher. This is Nadir. Together, these two warriors defend a large group of innocent people from the Templars.
Yes, this movie is basically a cheaper version of THE ROAD WARRIOR. All of the events take place in areas that looks like quarries or construction sites, which they probably are. THE NEW BARBARIANS is just okay. Give me THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR or RAVAGERS instead.
