This three hour DVD consists of six episodes of the anime series, about a vampire named Shido who helps a woman detective hunt down the Nightbreed, various creatures who inhabit the night and prey upon humans. The difference between Nightbreed and the vampires is that they devour human flesh while vampires only drink their blood. The most common way a Nightbreed appears is by possessing a human and using the body for a host, changing into the monster when they attack. In one of the stories a drug is being used by college kids, which weakens their souls and makes them susceptible to demonic possession. In another, a detective is shot in the head, making him braindead, and his body is taken over by a creature.SHIDO himself is an interesting character-he's a few hundred years old and knows little about his past since when he became a vampire all his previous memory was wiped away. The woman detective he works with lets him feed off of her so he doesn't have to attack humans. Throughout the episodes he's visited by the vampire who had made him into one of the undead, who has a thick Transylvanian accent. In the last several episodes Shido's young woman assistant is nearly killed by this vampire and the only way to save her is to transform her into one. She begs him to do this and so he does, knowing the curse it brings. She becomes somewhat flaky for the first week, doing whatever she wishes-and then starts wishing she were dead.NIGHTWALKER has elements of FOREVER KNIGHT, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and the X-FILES, so if you've enjoyed those shows you will dig these animated adventures.
