This is the story of Tumak, of the rock people, and Luana, of the shell people, and how their differing stone-age tribes become united in a prehistoric world. There's some surprisingly good effects, as with the woolly mammoth and the set design (which looks like it's from KING KONG), and I think this is the first time live lizards and reptiles were used (with glued on fins and spines) to portray dinosaurs. The best of all is the volcano exploding at the end, with the lava running over fleeing cavemen. What makes it all the more engaging are are the performances by Victor Mature (Tumak) and Carol Landis (Luana). Highly recommended, as is the Hammer remake from the 60's.
