This is the original Spanish movie upon which VANILLA SKY was based. About a man kept in a psychiatric prison for murdering a woman, yet we're never sure, until the end, who it really is-- the woman who stalked him or the woman he fell in love with. Actress Penelope Cruz first portrays the Sofia character here--and many of the scenes are almost exactly the same in the remake. Surprisingly, though, the remake has improved on some of the ideas, not to mention production values, and benefits greatly from the casting of Hollywood actors. Not that often it happens but I enjoyed the remake much better.
